What do we mean by synthetic images?
In
principle are all those images are configured by numbers from computer
processes. However here we have restricted the meaning of the term
according to a particular aesthetic choice and we are talking abaout a
very specific images: those witch contain a high level of iconicity and
present a plausible but imagined reality. As well, these synthetic
images that contain a high degree of figuative art and some fantastic
component.
arbitrariedad, pues podríamos haberlas denominado digitales o
rasterizadas o virtuales, etc. Los anglosajones sí tienen una forma de
denominar a este tipo de imágenes: CGI.
Why we call them synthetic?
It
is a way to refer to those images configured from mathematics and
computer science, without any kind of manofacturacion (based on brushes,
papers, inks, pigments or binders, etc.). It is therefore a word choice
that contains a certain arbitrariness, since we could have them called
digital or raster or virtual, etc. The Anglo-Saxons do have a way to
call this type of images: CGI.
For this kind of images?
Because
who in a way are overwhelmingly majority they are creating the younger
generations. Because it is from them that the future will re-diseñando
constantly and have, from this point of view, a visionary, influential
bias. Because apparently these new generations have found in them a form
of self-expression that emerges as well as a necessity. And that, perhaps, the young are those who best understood truly creation must be linked to the life
¿Y por qué no arte digital o arte sintético?
Sabemos
And why not art digital or synthetic art?
We
know that digital photography produces synthetic images in so far as
these are also configured based on mathematics and computer science.
From this point of view digital photography would also be attention of
the Foundation, but not so much by its nature, how much for his links to
the imaginary creation of "other worlds". And we decided to edging
designations digital art or synthetic art first because it's too generic
terms that have specific attention in other places or they imply an
arrogance that we not identify. Assign the status of art to certain
images is outside our mandate.

3
autores. 3 paisajes. 3 conceptos diferentes de la idea de paisaje. ¿O
no tan diferente?
3
authors. 3 landscapes. 3 different from the idea of landscape concepts.
Are they so different? We have discussed in other images. There is a
strange hobby of young creators of synthetic images to see the landscape
in a melancholy way, even nostalgic. Paradises lost at bucolic sunsets.
Why?
That would be the question: Wich encourages young people to represent
landscapes so melancholy? Here 3 examples of landscape with a common
denominator determining: a Sun about to become; Sun to shed light to
make way for the darkness. 3 generated landscapes with the support of
the mathematics and computer science. 3 matte paintings.
the
first shows a "simple" sunset realistic or betters, verisimilitude. The
second includes an imaginable world. It is conceivable at the same time
as possible. The third leads to the future ideal world, beautiful,
aseptic, clean, civilized.

The
future does't have to be apocalyptic. The earth doesn't shut down.
Human anger becoming aware of the need to get along with the
environment. Since no more choice.
Natural resources will awaken the human being of this devastating spirit (to the day).
the
landscape will again show their romantic side: Sturn Und Drang. Stormy
skies with moist greens and impossible mountains. A ship built with
high-tech flies scrutinizing, controlling, monitoring, or perhaps
transporting its occupants.

We
have said on several occasions, synthetic images are images configured
from mathematics and computer science, which is why are the exclusive
compendium of ones and zeros. The figurative art of these images will
not make us lose sight this foundation.
Among
the favorite subjects of the forever young creators of synthetic images
are: robots, monsters, the cyborgs and aliens, with regard to the
gender of the figure and portrait.
Here
an alien. A woman? Judging by what we know of the human race could say
yes. But know what you think that alien of a theme that ignorant,
because in his world, all beings are like her. She knows nothing of
genres because all beings are like her and sex knows what you have to
know to reproduce, something of what we, humans, ignore everything. Nor
do we know if this alien knows something of the Nilo's Venus. Or we
reason for the sie of his hands.
Rocjantilado, Angelitoon.
iguales.
In generators IS logic only occupies the space required. If art was to Leonardo a thing mentale, for new creators of images everything is mentale.
So perhaps the History one of the disciplines who are interested less
in. Beyond the images of the past that in every moment, now yes,
interested in rescue to build a present without nostalgia but somehow
"already seen". Everything is mentale, nothing exists; nothing
has last and the logic prints desire...the desire to build a certain
mental image. Angelitoon builds a space that reminds us of the most
decadent Boflin, one whose desire led him to perform 5 islands of the
dead similar but not the same in this image.
Preciosa imagen.
The
synthetic images in general are the product of "unconsciousness"; they
are ideas without defined concept, the product of ideas who shun the
discursive support, the ideas that reject the word. They are images that
reject the speech, explanation, exegesis and sense parallel that can
provide hermeneutics. They are images that claim in the same
representation. There is a value-added sacred as the one who for a time
was necessary to justify the objective of art in these images. Synthetic
images lack meaning. And its meaning is ephemeral, conjunctural,
evanescent. Stefan Morrel rufueling station is perfectly representative.
Everything is surface on a great idea, but everything in it is so
necessary as fundamental for a superficial idea. Beautiful image.
Jumper, Oliver Boucheron
Jumper is called, that's what it says in the photo caption. It is a being?, it is a robot?, it is an alien? Us
nor can clearly identify the machine that is behind the robot, we don't
see clearly the correct operation of this machine. However, we are able
to assign a meaning to the anthropoid of the figure. And deductive
insight. But, what could be the meaning of this image? What could be the
acceptable sense? "What us" the zipper that begins almost al the head
and continues along the trunk of the character? And the wrist? Who for
poses the "subject"?Who leaves behind your vehicle? And the most
disturbing question, what has been able to induce who has generated
three-dimensional character, it doing as well as a peculiar way in which
importance show remote vehicle?
Alien, Ben Mauro
The
generator of synthetic images are far removed from the paradigm of the
artist who inhabited The Art Age. (Winckelman, 1764 - Bankruptcy that
Lehman Brothers, 2008). The new creators of images don't work on the
basis of any commitment; nor with society, nor with their time, nor with
an ideal, nor with truth, nor with art, nor with technique, and of
course, history doesn't matter to them nothing. Nothing sacred, nothing
metaphysical, nothing compromised. Everything is for them informal and
ephemeral. And it is precisely this "informal" what is release them in a
privileged position to them of prejudice. That release them: that free
them. Generators of IS dare with a type of images that modernity
proscribed during the tyrannical exercise, and therefore they "paint"
extremely figurative images, they mix all the references that want them.
They mix, for example, the idea of a former bust with the idea of
non-existence -an alien; thus combining the idea of beauty with the idea
of the unlikely.

The
Syntetic Images (IS) are the product of a required expression. Their
explanations will have to look them, not so much in the middle
(digital: computer scientist/ mathematician) or in the individuality of
the creator, in the cause that generated them, and this is none other
than the DESIRE. The vast majority of ISs have been generated from an
inner need. Its creators any of those claims that have accompanied (for
better or for worse) the artists of the art was there. There is only on
them an imperative need to generate "new worlds". Worlds that sure
usually linked to - the category aesthetic- the sublime.
In
another post, I pointed out that schizophrenic spirit that inhabits the
digital native. It wasn't pointing a pathology, but rather reveal the
characteristic with which young people see the future. We saw Tiberius
Viris; now let's look at another image of the same author. I don't know
which of the two images the categorical concept of the sublime. The
)virtual) future is the (virtual) future.
Devil's Cliffs (Bastien Grivet)
lado no menos abismal.
Abyss with nerves
Bastien
Grivet shows us the abyss. We see it from the middle. We recognize,
therefore, that on the right is a side from which fall into that abyss.
And that the other side no less abysmal is from the left. That one is
illuminated and the other in penumbra is purely temporary. Grivet shows
us, as I say, from the media, but from this side; sure there are who do
ir from the opposite side. Then those opposite sides we have considered
right and left turn into their respective antagonistic... It isn't a
question of relativism, you just accept that we are all doomed to the
abyss. And that the abyss is all. Meanwhile, that yes, appear small and
subtle interconncections between those two sides that allow us to avoid
the abyss of time. Grivet shows us the abyss from between and from this
side, very probably clinging to one of those "nerves" which allows you
to avoid falling into the abyss.
Lost World - Temple of Nature, 2009 (Tiberius Viris)
School.
The synthetic landscapes proposed, in some way, a form of beauty. In its most classical understanding but taking as a reference the unheard,
combining in a schizophrenic way the Paradisical qualities with the
apocalyptic. But always, we insist, from the aesthetic category of what is beautiful.
Hence, contain an anachronistic point that makes them little
interesting for lovers of "something new". The only difference between
them is that while classics understand the bucolic landscape of
nostalgic and reactionary way, synthetic creators understand it as a
place for the future. As an example, we can compare the landscape of
Tiberius Viris and Thomas Cole, father of the Hudson River School
landscape.
(Thomas Cole)
Hudson City (Dylan Cole)
Hudson City (Dylan Cole)
While
carried out by digital natives, synthetic images typically combine
several types of influences, which gives them an unsettling ambiguity.
Hudson City perfectly coexist the influences received from the Hudson
River School (Cole, Church, Bierstad) with influences from German
romanticism (Friedrich) and with the ways of hyperrealism (Estes). And
this is the real reason why the image borders 3 categories aesthetics
that beyond being different could be even antagonistic. In Hudson City
the sublime lies with the magnificence of the wilderness of mountains
and waterfalls; it is beautiful, with that harmonious serenity of the
lake and this pristine purity of structures human sophisticated; and
finally is also the picturesque from that spectator watching all this
with the spirit of a traveler, a passer-by of a tourist. We aren't know
exactly to what kind of image. And that creates a tension that turns out
to be their own good synthetic images. It is "The walker in front of a
sea of clouds"(1) of the XXI century, where the metaphor of the clouds
has been replaced by the metaphor of the interplanetary.

Two pictures that have something in common: both are synthetic.
In
the first picture, we are able to "see" a character. A face that
inevitably transcends the possible portrait and refers to a cinematic
archetype.
In the second, we are able to "recognize" what is impossible is plausible.
The
degree of realism of both is what precisely have in common. They are
synthetic images, images generated by computer science and mathematics.
Mountainpolis, 2006, Olga Antonenko.
Mountainopolis
Mountainpolis
In
Mountainpolis of Ola Antonenko becomes necessary a contemplative
attitude that inevitably alternate verticaly implied by nature and
hotizontal forced by the subject. An alternation witch leads and leads
to a purely linked to the sublime feeling: the attraction of the abyss.
The hardness os stone supporting the fragility of the meat. Flimsy
journeys over the unfathomable abyss. Landsapce inhabited in the heights
and disturbing and agonizing balance. Supension bridges over a deadly
chasm. Mountainpolis implies a stunned look that confronts the same
abyss of representation.
